Our Impact

HorseWorld Annual Review

2025 was a year of growing demand, increasing complexity, and significant impact.

Across our equine welfare and Discovery programmes, we responded to more horses in crisis and supported more young people facing challenges than ever before. We investigated 720 welfare concerns, rescued 46 horses, cared for 302 equines, and supported 270 children and young people through our Discovery programme.

Our 2025 Annual Review tells the stories behind those numbers – from horses rescued from neglect and abandonment to young people rebuilding confidence, reconnecting with education, and discovering new possibilities for the future. It also explores the unique role rescued horses play in helping young people thrive, and how HorseWorld is working to protect horses by giving them a meaningful role in the modern world.

At HorseWorld, we are committed to changing the lives of horses and young people who need us most.

As we approach our 75th year, we are also looking ahead — towards our centenary in 2052 — to ensure we can continue Mabel Cocksedge’s legacy of people helping horses, helping people.

To do that, we are building a clear roadmap for the future.

Over the next five years, we will focus on three priorities:

1. For horses
Using decades of experience and a deep understanding of equine welfare, we will continue to deliver a horse-centred rescue and rehabilitation programme that improves outcomes for horses across our local community.

2. For young people
We will strengthen and grow our Discovery programme — developing a centre of excellence in equine-assisted learning that supports children and young people with complex needs to rebuild confidence, relationships and engagement with education.

3. Changing the system
We will expand the impact of our work by sharing what we learn — working in partnership with others, contributing to research and policy, and helping shape more effective systems of support for both horses and young people.
