Meet Twiggy

HorseWorld took in Twiggy with another pony called Pearl in 2024. Twiggy had been in RSPCA boarding for 18 months, having originally been seized due to neglect. They have both been rehabilitated, with Pearl joining our Discovery team and Twiggy now looking for a forever home.

Twiggy is a 13 year old, 12hh bay Welsh pony. Since being at HorseWorld Twiggy has settled in well and took well to handling. Our training team saw her potential and she has progressed well with groundwork and can now be long-lined, lunged and fully tacked up. Twiggy is now looking for a home as a project pony where she can continue with her work and potentially progress to being ridden by a small jockey (backing weight limit of 40kg, including tack). She is a forward going sensitive type, so would either suit lead rein riding or independent work with a confident rider.

Twiggy has EMS and cushings so needs to managed accordingly. She is currently on ½ a prascend a day and lives on a hill with poor-type grazing. She has a small daily feed to take her tablet in and only needs supplementary hay over the winter months. Her future home would need to be prepared to continue with her medication and weight/diet management. Twiggy can be stabled, but doesn't currently stable as part of her routine. A quiet stable yard would be ideal for her, as she can get stressed by lots of horses coming and going. Twiggy gets on well with other horses but she does get separation anxiety so needs constant equine company. She needs a consistent companion or a larger herd dynamic where she will never be left alone. She currently lives in a mixed herd and is a sweet and easy fit into most herd dynamics, generally sitting in the middle of the pecking order. She can be testing to catch in an open field, but improves once she has trust in her handler. When settled she is well behaved for handling and training, but has an active mind.

We are looking for an experienced home with a competent handler for Twiggy as she can be quite cheeky and needs someone who can calmly correct her. She is a fun pony to have around and we would love to find her, her own home and family to thrive with.
