Dime's Story

Dime was rescued as a 5-year-old in 2017 along with two other Shire horses; Lolly and Florin. The trio were part of a larger group of 27 Shire horses who had been neglected and abandoned by their previous owner. She was underweight, had overgrown feet and thrush caused from lack of regular foot care.

Where Dime was rescued from

After careful rehabilitation and treatment, Dime recovered well and soon became a firm favourite at HorseWorld. She even joined HorseWorld's Sponsorship scheme and had lots of supporters who loved her just as much as our team did. Two years after being rescued, she started harness training to help keep her fit, healthy and mentally stimulated. She absolutely loved her work and got really excited whenever the cart came out.

In 2021, Dime was rehomed to James from Wessex Working Horses to continue her training and learn new skills too. She has absolutely flourished in her new home working alongside another Shire horse called Flynn. From harrowing, logging and driving a cart to performing at our Open Days - she has taken everything her stride.

Dime's rehomer, James says: I'm so pleased with Dime's progress. She has had to cope with a variety of forestry jobs in some pretty wet conditions which has given her more confidence. We're about to get into a lot of meadow/pasture work on chain harrows working as a pair with Flynn so that will help to further bring her on.

"Flynn is 14 years old now and has a wonderful laid-back character, giving confidence to Dime, who is less experienced. Dime is more forward than Flynn, so they can learn from one another. The horses are fantastic for carrying out conservation work, particularly in areas that are difficult to access for machinery. They are also great at engaging people at shows – children particularly love them!

"Dime has exceeded all my expectations and she continues to go from strength to strength. Thank you so much for all you did for her after her difficult start in life. She's such a sensitive, lovely horse and a joy to work with."
