Meet Marigold

Marigold arrived at HorseWorld in 2023, she was rescued with help from the RSPCA from a site with 16+ Shetlands who were all in very bad condition with over grown hooves. Marigold is the only one to survive from the group we took in. She is a skewbald mare standing around 8.2hh and needs to be carefully managed to prevent laminitis.

Since being at HorseWorld, Marigold has been rehabilitated and she is now ready to find a new loving home. Marigold is estimated to be around 15 years old and is looking for a home as a non-ridden companion. Due to poor confirmation and previous injury, she cannot be brought into work. Marigold cannot be walked long distances or too frequently either because of her feet sensitivity.

Marigold lives on our Shetland track system in a mixed herd over the summer months, which is essentially grass free and supplemented with hay and a daily feed. Over the winter she grazes the middle section of the track which is rougher/standing hay type grass. This seasonal routine works well for her, although we imagine she would also benefit from living on a grass-free track all year round. Marigold lives out 24/7 at HorseWorld, but she is very good to be stabled so could have stabling as part of her routine.

Marigold doesn’t really enjoy lots of fuss and can be trickier when handling her back legs, so is ideally looking for an adult handler. Overall, she is good to handle for a confident person experienced with Shetlands. She would suit living with another Shetland/Shetlands with limited grass. We would love to find this deserving mare her forever home and believe she will make a lovely companion.
