Meet Calypso

Calypso is a 6 year old 12.1hh Cob x Shetland piebald mare, looking for a home as a project pony.

Calypso was rescued in July 2019 after being illegally grazed on council land. She came in as a foal at foot with her mum, Epona. Calypso was very cautious of humans and never wanted to interact when we entered their field. It took a couple of weeks, and encouragement from her friend Apollo, for her to become comfortable around us. Calypso’s confidence has progressed incredibly since being with us. She is great for basic handling (catching, grooming, farrier etc) and takes everything in her stride. She’s a very friendly girl and gets on well with the other horses in her field.

Calypso can live in a mixed herd. She currently lives out 24/7 but requires her grazing to be restricted, as she is prone to weight gain. Calypso returned to us from her previous loan home due to repeatedly breaking through the electric fencing, so we are looking for a home for her that has robust post and rail fencing. Calypso can be stabled but she doesn't overly enjoy it and she gets stressed if left alone. A home where Calypso has access to a field shelter or open barn, where she can always see another horse, would be best suited to her.

Calypso is a very sweet and friendly mare that is a joy to work with. She has passed her physical assessments and has the potential to become a riding or driving pony in the future. The training team have been working with her over the past year and she has become more established in long reining, lunging and in-hand walks, plus Calypso is happy to wear a saddle and be bridled. Her backing weight limit would be at 15% of her own weight- so would be around 60kg including tack weight. Calypso is a forward going fun pony - we think she would suit a confident child as a second pony or for a small adult.
