Salisbury's Story

A  mare and  foal in danger...

In 2015, HorseWorld was contacted by the RSPCA to rescue a mare and her foal in urgent need. The mother was very frail and had been tethered to the ground with a chain around her neck. From her condition, we believe she gave birth just a few days earlier under these distressing circumstances.

To make matters worse, there was a loose stallion also living in the field, which posed a massive threat to both the mare and her new-born foal.

bright future ahead...

Once safely back at HorseWorld, the mare was named Catena, and her foal Salisbury. Both Catena and Salisbury received gentle, patient rehabilitation to help them recover from their ordeal.

As Salisbury grew and matured, his true nature began to shine. He quickly revealed not only his kind and loving personality but also his natural ability and confidence, showing early signs of his incredible potential.

Loving life on the farm...

Salisbury went to a foster home as a youngster, where he became a companion to a young and valuable racehorse colt. When he returned to HorseWorld, he was trained as a ridden pony and spent many happy years working on our Discovery programme, before later semi-retiring as a nanny horse. Salisbury’s confident and outgoing nature made him perfectly suited to this role. He supported young horses in training, helping guide them through new experiences and building their confidence with his calm, steady leadership. He also joined our sponsorship scheme, where he spent many years delighting supporters who came to meet him.

Unfortunately, due to ongoing lameness issues, the decision was made to retire Salisbury early from ridden work. After a 12-year journey at HorseWorld, it was time for his next chapter. We knew he would thrive in a loan home where he could enjoy the one-to-one attention he loves.

Salisbury's next chapter...

In February 2026, Salisbury said farewell to HorseWorld and travelled to his new home where he would be much-loved by his new family. He has settled in well and loves following his loaner around the field while she poo picks. He can still be cheeky but that's all part of his charm!
