A mother's final gift...
In 2022, HorseWorld rescued a heavily pregnant mare named Peggy from a terrible case of neglect. She was severely underweight, suffering with painful hoof abscesses and had a deformed left hind. Soon after arriving at HorseWorld, she gave birth to a colt - who we named Conker.
Despite the best efforts of our expert welfare team, Peggy’s body had endured too much suffering. Not long after giving birth, she sadly had to be put to sleep due to the many health implications inflicted by years of neglect.
Her final gift to the world was Conker.

Conker's early days...
Although Conker was left without his mother, he was never left without love. From his very first days, our dedicated team, along with some amazing ‘nanny’ horses in the HorseWorld herd, stepped in to give him the care, comfort, and companionship he needed.
Despite losing his mother at just four months old, Conker grew up surrounded by kindness, patient handling, and the steady reassurance of his equine role models.

From fragile foal to confident young horse...
Today, Conker is a happy, healthy, and confident young horse. He’s kind-natured, affectionate, and already showing the cheeky spark of personality that makes him such a joy to be around. He is also growing bigger and stronger by the day - a wonderful reminder of how resilience and care can transform a life.
Conker is currently working through a personalised training plan aimed at building his confidence, skills, and trust in people. He has received excellent training, is wonderful to handle, and absolutely loves human interaction. However, due to losing his mother at a young age, he has developed some behavioural challenges around other horses. At times, he can show aggression towards them, so it’s important that he is paired with a steady, older companion who can help guide him and continue teaching him how to interact appropriately within a herd.
Though he carries the sadness of losing his mother, Conker’s story is ultimately one of hope, healing, and second chances. Thanks to Peggy’s courage, the dedication of the HorseWorld team, and the love of his herd, Conker has a bright and happy future ahead of him.
