Rescue horse Angel finds new home at HorseWorld after local rescue centres hit capacity
The long journey South...
Earlier this year, Angel, an eight-year-old Standardbred grey mare, made the long journey from Carlisle to HorseWorld, finally finding a safe and loving home after facing an uncertain future. Her loving owner could no longer care for her due to heart-breaking circumstances, and with all other local charities at capacity, we were able to step in and offer her a safe and loving home.
The arrival of Angel...
Angel’s story is a stark reminder of the pressures facing the horse rescue sector. Across the UK, many charities are operating at full capacity, leaving horses with nowhere to go when owners can no longer care for them. When Angel’s owner found herself unable to continue caring for her, local rescue centres were already full, making her future uncertain. That’s when we were able to step in.
Thanks to the support of Here4Horses, Angel’s transport was arranged safely and at a significantly reduced cost. The journey, split between Here4Horses and her owner, ensured she travelled comfortably all the way to Bristol. Their generosity and careful planning made what could have been an impossible journey possible.
Life at HorseWorld...
After the six-hour journey, Angel went into our isolation unit, giving her much-needed space to stretch her legs, settle in, and adjust calmly to her new surroundings. She handled the transition beautifully, showing a relaxed and confident nature from the start. Once her isolation period was complete, Angel joined a herd and quickly made friends, often seen mutually grooming and enjoying the company of her new companions.
On arrival, Angel had a thorough health check and as expected, was found to be in good condition. Since then, she has settled in beautifully, exploring the yard with growing confidence and starting to come on to the busy yard more often. Her gentle nature and sweet temperament have made her a joy to have around, and she truly lives up to her name.
“I’m so happy and relieved for Angel that you have given her this opportunity, as one day we would have run out of options. I am eternally grateful for what you have done for us.”
Stories like Angel’s highlight the ongoing horse rescue crisis in the UK, where many horses are left with few options due to full charities. Thanks to the combined efforts of caring owners, local charities, transport supporters, and our dedicated team here at HorseWorld, Angel now has a safe home, a bright future, and the chance to thrive.
