Monarch Equestrian stable doors transform rescued horses' wellbeing
Rescued horses at HorseWorld are already reaping the benefits of new Monarch split-hinged stable doors, thanks to the generosity of the Mrs D M France-Hayhurst Foundation and the support of Monarch Equestrian.
The Foundation donated an amazing £5,000 towards the project, while Monarch Equestrian provided a kind discount and expert fitting, making the upgrade possible for our rescued horses, ponies and donkeys.
What makes these doors special?
These special pony-sized doors are designed with both comfort and safety in mind. Their adjustable design allows the doors to be kept low so smaller horses can see over them, or closed higher for bigger horses, ensuring every member of the herd has a secure and comfortable space. Our welfare team have already noticed the positive impact on the horses’ wellbeing including calmer behaviour, increased confidence and overall contentment. Rescued horses have often experienced trauma, and stabling can be a worrying time. Being able to see other horses and people provides comfort and company, helping them feel safer, more relaxed, and supported in line with their natural instincts as sociable herd animals.
Making stabling a positive experience...
Our equines are only ever stabled for short periods, as most of the herd live out 24/7, enjoying the freedom to graze, roam, and interact with one another. Horses are brought in mainly for veterinary care, training, special events, or sessions with our Discovery students. Because stabling is often a brief but necessary part of their routine, it is vital that every horse, pony, and donkey—including the many smaller breeds—has a comfortable, secure space where they feel safe and relaxed. Thoughtful stable design helps minimise stress, supports their physical and emotional wellbeing, and ensures that even short stays are as pleasant and supportive as possible. Thanks to the combined support, our rescued horses now have five new stables that really meet their needs. The adjustable doors have made a real difference to their comfort, mood, and how they interact with each other. Staff have noticed that the horses are calmer, more confident, and more curious about their surroundings. We are so thankful for the generous donation from the Mrs D M France-Hayhurst Foundation and the kind discount and expert support from Monarch Equestrian, which made this project possible.
