Got a pony-mad youngster at home this summer? Book them in for one of our sensational Summer Sessions!
Each 2 hour session will include*;
- - Spending time with some of our wonderful horses and ponies (and maybe a donkey or two…)
- - Fun with some arts and crafts activities.
- - Exploring our site; maybe foraging for tasty natural treats for the ponies, or talking a walk to meet more of the HorseWorld herd
(*Please note that activities may be subject to change due to weather or other circumstances beyond our control. Time spent with ponies will not be ridden activities.)
Sessions cost £48 per child, and you’ll be helping us continue our essential work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses and ponies in need.
Each session will be limited to a maximum of 6 participants and led by one of our fully trained HorseWorld Discovery Facilitators.
There will be two sessions on each of the dates below. Morning sessions (10am to 12noon) will be for primary school aged children (6 to 11 years); afternoon sessions (1pm to 3pm) will be for secondary school aged children (12 to 16 years).
Summer Sessions will take place on:

We’re sure these sessions are going to be more popular than an ice lolly on a summers day, so book now and don’t delay!

Summer Sessions Questions
-
Where do I go when I arrive?
HorseWorld’s address is HorseWorld, Keynes Farm, Staunton Lane, Whitchurch, Bristol BS14 0QL.
As you arrive at the yard, you’ll see a large wooden gate directly in front of you. Please park in the layby to the right of the gate. On the left of the large wooden gate is a smaller pedestrian gate. There is a doorbell on the black post, next to the small gate. Please ring the bell and one of the team will come and meet you.
No entry is permitted onto the yard without being accompanied by a member of the HorseWorld Discovery team, so please wait until you are met, and the team can ensure your child is signed in etc.
Running late? Please contact us on 01275 893023 -
Do I need to stay on site during the session?
No but we do have a portacabin for parents/carers which you’re welcome to wait in if you would like to. Please note that no participants or supporting adults are to interact with the horses unless under supervision of a member of the HorseWorld team. This is for your safety and also to respect the personal space of our horses and ponies.
Inappropriate or disruptive behaviour will result in you (parent/carer) being contacted to collect your child from the session.
-
What will happen during the session?
During the two hour session participants will spend time with our ponies (and perhaps some of the donkeys too!) which may include grooming, decorating them with pony-friendly accessories, and taking them for short walks around the yard or arena.
The rest of the session will include fun arts and crafts activities (for example, decorating horse shoes), and/or getting out and about and exploring our site on foot and possibly meeting some more of the HorseWorld herd.
-
Will there be horseriding during the session?
No. Participants will have a wonderful time getting to know our ponies from the ground. All the activities with the ponies will be ground-work based. The horses we’ll be working with are rescued and as a result many have physical or emotional challenges which means they’re not able to be ridden.
-
Who will be running the sessions?
Each of our summer sessions will be run by one of our fully trained Discovery Facilitators.
All our facilitators are qualified teachers as well as having, or currently working towards, a nationally recognised Level 3 Diploma in Equine Assisted Services. At least one facilitator on site during the sessions will hold a current First Aid qualification.
-
What should my child wear?
If the weather is warm, shorts and t-shirts are fine. If cooler, tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirts are recommended. Waterproofs are strongly advised if rain is forecast. Participants will be given steel-toed footwear to wear but we do recommend arriving in trainers or similar robust footwear. Clothes are likely to get dirty!
-
Do we need to bring our own safety equipment (PPE) like riding hats?
No. All equipment will be provided, including hard hats to wear whilst on the yard. However, if your child has their own riding hat (which conforms to current safety standards) they are welcome to bring it.
-
Will sessions be cancelled if the weather is bad?
If extreme weather is forecast we will monitor and adapt our sessions accordingly. If we decide to cancel the sessions for health and safety reasons we will endeavor to give at least 48 hours notice. In this instance, a full refund will be given, or there will be the opportunity to transfer to an alternative session if convenient and/or if places are available.
-
Can we bring treats for the horses?
We don’t allow feeding of treats during the sessions as this can lead to creating undesirable behaviours in the ponies. However, if you’d like to bring apples or carrots you will be able to leave them with the facilitator to be shared out amongst the horses later in the day, once the sessions are over.
-
My child sponsors a HorseWorld pony - will they see them during the session?
We cannot guarantee which ponies and donkeys we will be working with, or who we will meet/see during the sessions.
-
Does my child need to bring drinks or snacks?
Please bring a drink, but we do have water available if needed. If snacks are needed due to medical reasons please do bring them, otherwise they will not be required.
-
What if I need to cancel the session?
Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session to receive a full refund.
This will allow us time to try and fill the vacant space. Cancellations made after the 48 hour window will not receive a refund. To cancel your place please call the office on 01275 893023.
-
