Meet Lickity Split

Lickity Split is a handsome thoroughbred x bay gelding standing at 15.1hh. He initially arrived at HorseWorld in 2008 as a foal at foot with his mum; they were part of a larger group of horses that had been seized after being illegally fly grazed. After a few years of growing up, Lickity has since been rehomed as a ridden horse, joined our Discovery programme for a time and then been rehomed as a non-ridden companion for retirement. Last year Lickity returned to us from his companion home as his needs no longer matched his companions. The grazing sadly became too much for him resulting in him gaining weight and starting to develop laminitis.

Since returning to HorseWorld his rehabilitation has gone well, Lickity is back to healthy weight range and living out 24/7 on poor grazing with the herd. Vet assessments found that he has Cushing’s and he needs ½ prascend tablet daily which he is happy to take with a carrot. Lickity has now been deemed ready to be rehomed again to live out a happy retirement with a consistent equine friend with the same grazing needs. A rehomer with a set up that can restrict his grass intake as needed and can continue his daily medication would be ideal for him. Currently Lickity is living in a gelding only herd on a flat field with poor grazing supplemented with daily hay rations; he doesn’t need to be rugged over winter and generally is an easy keeper. A track system with another retired gelding could suit him well.

Lickity is a very lovely boy that is great to handle. He gets on well with other horses although does like to be boss; he can live with both mares and geldings (although he has mainly lived with geldings over the past few years in our care and on his loan homes). Lickity is happiest spending most of his time in the field with his friends, although will stable overnight etc as part of a routine if needed. This horse has a lot of love to give and would make somebody a fantastic easy to handle companion.
