Meet Hero

Hero is a stunning 14 year old, 15hh Welsh Section D gelding with a striking black coat and white markings. He arrived at HorseWorld in 2024 after his owner sadly lost their land. Hero is now looking for a non-ridden companion home where he can be pampered by an experienced handler who understands his sensitive side and can reassure him when he is worried.

Underneath his worried exterior, Hero is a very sweet natured boy who has so much love and affection to offer the right person. He is a sensitive soul who reads his human; he needs a calm, confident handler who can be his anchor and comfort him when he feels anxious. He benefits from getting to know one person really well and appreciates familiarity. With patience and kindness he can be very affectionate when he's relaxed.

The Perfect Herd: Hero thrives in a quiet routine. He currently lives out 24/7 in a small, settled herd of geldings. He gets on well with geldings of all ages and enjoys being in a herd, often picking one to be his best friend. He cannot go with mares and he is not keen on being alone, so is looking for a home where he will always have equine company.

Summer Management: He is a good doer who needs restricted grazing in the summer months. He also wears a fly rug from spring to autumn to manage very mild sweet itch.

The Human: Hero is looking for an experienced equine person, who can take the time to build a bond with him. He is a sensitive horse who feeds off his handler's reactions and looks to them to provide him with reassurance. Once he’s built a bond and trust with his handler he is a very rewarding horse to care for and could make a lovely addition to a quiet herd.

Hero is generally good to do in all ways but his anxiety can make him more spooky at times, especially during winter when its windy. When left in the field to his own devices with his friends he is very happy and content. Hero can be overwhelmed when on the yard, he has settled a lot and grown in confidence over the past few months, but he still has a certain way of telling you when he is overstimulated. This is improving all the time, as he becomes more confident and settled. Hero is a really rewarding horse to work with, there is no better feeling than gaining his trust and watching him flourish. We think he would thrive on a quiet home as it seems the busyness of the rescue centre feeds into his anxieties.

If you have a quiet yard, a steady routine, and room in your heart for a rewarding handling project, Hero could be the horse for you.
