For some children and young people, school can feel like a place where they simply don’t fit.

They may be struggling with anxiety, additional learning needs, trauma or difficult life experiences. They may have become disengaged from education, lost confidence in themselves or be at risk of exclusion.

For these young people, HorseWorld Discovery offers a different way forward.

Since 2007, our Discovery programme has brought vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people together with gentle rescued horses, creating a safe, nurturing and non-judgemental environment where they can learn, grow and begin to believe in themselves again.

Where horses help people heal

At Discovery, the horses are much more than teachers.

Our rescued horses have their own personalities, histories and quirks. They don't judge a young person by their past, their diagnosis or what has happened to them. They simply respond to what they see and feel in that moment.

Working alongside them, young people can learn to communicate, build trust, manage their emotions and take responsibility. They experience the satisfaction of achieving something for themselves – often for the first time in a long time.

Learning takes place through practical, hands-on activities rather than sitting behind a desk. Gradually, confidence grows. Anxiety can ease. Communication improves. And a young person who once believed they weren't capable of learning can begin to see themselves differently.

It's about discovering horses. But it's also about discovering yourself.
