Guitar Legend Mike Rutherford supports Local Horse Rescue Charity HorseWorld in Auction.

Mike Rutherford of Mike and the Mechanics/Genesis kindly accepted a request to sign a guitar to raise money for a Charity Auction being held in aid of HorseWorld and Discovery.

HorseWorld’s Managing Director Mark Owen, Finance Director Nikki Light and Darren Sims (aka “Daz”) went to the Colston Hall in Bristol, where Mike and the Mechanics performed on Wednesday 1st March, to witness him signing a guitar which will be auctioned at Daz’s Rock 4 Charity event at Weston Super Mare’s Grand Pier this Friday evening.

All three attended a sound check before the show and presented Mike with an exclusive HorseWorld Bristol Blue Glass penny, which has been commissioned to mark the anniversary 65th Anniversary of the Charity which was founded in 1952. As the first person to receive one, and being an equestrian himself, Mike greatly appreciated it. The pennies will be on sale as a limited edition item to raise funds for HorseWorld in 2017.

HorseWorld’s Managing Director Mark Owen spoke of the evening “I am very grateful to Mike Rutherford and his team for agreeing to sign the guitar for our Charity Auction raising much-needed funds. I know that Mike and his family have a deep passion and love for horses and it was lovely to talk to him about the work of our charity and then present him with the very first of our 65th Anniversary Commemorative Pennies, made from Bristol Blue Glass.”

Nikki  stayed on to watch Mike and The Mechanics perform and was not disappointed with the night: “Mike and the Mechanics concert was amazing and the atmosphere electrifying.  People were on their feet clapping and dancing in the aisles.   They played a mixture of well-known songs from Mike and the Mechanics, Genesis and Roachford, together with songs from their new album which is being released on 7th April.  The concert was virtually sold out and the band gave a fantastic encore bringing everyone to their feet, I left feeling elated and played their CD in the car all the way home.”

The signed guitar is now set to raise hundreds, if not thousands of pounds in aid of HorseWorld and their “Discovery” projects. Nikki Light, HorseWorld’s Finance Director spoke of the moment: “I felt very privileged to have been invited to watch the sound check for Mike and the Mechanics, it was an amazing experience.  Having Mike sign the guitar for auction at the Daz’s Rock 4 Charity Event on Friday 3rd March will bring in more money to help our rescued horses and also help our work with disadvantaged children through our Discovery Programme.”

An opening bid of £500 has already been placed on the guitar so it is sure to bring in the much needed funds for HorseWorld.
