Nine-year-old holds charity fundraiser

A nine-year-old girl has raised money for a rescued pony at local equine charity HorseWorld,  by holding a fun day at her home in Bradley Stoke, Bristol.

Lily Warnes held a fundraising day at her home for all her friends because “she loves horses and ponies and has been visiting HorseWorld with her dad for quite a few years. Lily wanted to help all the horses and ponies that are looked after at the centre,” said her Grandma Lynn. Lily asked for no help arranging the day, just a donation from friends at the end if they’d enjoyed themselves. Lily’s fun day raised a remarkable £222 which has been used to pay for a year’s supply of pain relief medication for  Fancy Pant’s and also some treats for the other horses, ponies and donkeys at HorseWorld’s Visitor Centre in Whitchurch, Bristol.

Lily’s fun day included activities like: guess the name of the Zebra, ice cube bobbing, lucky dip, garden picture quiz, nail art, raffle and auction.  Lily also served ‘Mocktails’ with pony themed names, and supper later to all her friends.

When Lily visited HorseWorld to tell us about her day she decided that Fancy Pants was the pony she wanted to help. “Fancy Pants arrived at HorseWorld in 2007 because her owner had become terminally ill and couldn’t look after her anymore. She is one of our older ponies and needs this pain relief so that she can still enjoy everyday activities like being turned out in the fields with her friends,” said Vicky Greenslade, Visitor Centre Yard Manager.

She added; “We would like to thank Lily for raising so much money for Fancy Pants, and also her Grandma Lynn for fully supporting her. The money raised will help buy Fancy’s medication she so badly needs as well as treating all the horses in our care. We are so grateful to Lily, what a wonderful way to help a pony in need.”
