HorseWorld Burgled after Carol Service!

Devastated HorseWorld Groom, Jodie with DonatelloThe Charity had just finished hosting its Carol Service, a free event which it hosts every year as a thank you to the local community for their dedicated support throughout the year.

The service was a great success and very well attended; “We were pleased that the day went so well. It is an event that many of our supporters look forward to and has a real feeling of Christmas spirit to it. It is such an enjoyable event for everyone involved and the animals love the attention and presents they receive. We were lucky with the weather and thankful to all the people who gave so generously to help raise the vital funds needed to look after the many rescued horses, ponies and donkeys in our care” said Visitor Centre Yard Manager, Karen Hardwick.

However, that evening tragedy struck. The HorseWorld offices were broken into and ransacked and all of the funds raised from the Carol Service were stolen.

The staff were absolutely devastated to hear the news as this is a key fundraising event for the charity that has recently had to cope with rising feed bills. Fundraising Manager, Elizabeth Goddard explains “This could not have come at a worse time for HorseWorld. This winter we are trying to pay for enough hay to feed over 150 horses. Hay has virtually doubled in price this year to almost £6.00 per bale and the money that was taken would have fed the rescued horses for over a month! We are devastated that this has happened. After all the hard work the staff and volunteers put in and the generosity of our supporters, we cannot believe someone could rob a Charity at Christmas.”

The Charity would like to appeal to the local community and ask anyone who may have information regarding the break-in to contact the police straight away.
