Information for Referring Services
How can I get a child involved in Discovery?
Anyone can refer a student to the Discovery programme – parents, relations, teachers, lecturers, social workers, SENCOs, etc.
We also receive referrals via local hospital education services and specialist provision units. We are registered Alternative Provision providers for Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council, and work with many other local authorities.
How much do Discovery courses cost?
Our group courses (conducted over 6 weeks, with one 90 minute session per week) for children aged six years and over cost £750 for a group of up to 8 learners. (Cost for an individual referral is £380.)
Please contact us for an informal chat about costs and the alternative ways in which we can support your learners/children.
Who is Discovery for?
We work with students who are struggling to cope with a diverse range of challenges. They could be coping with emotional trauma and/or physical health problems. They may be young people who have been ‘pushed out’ of mainstream education, and/or struggling with low confidence and/or self-esteem issues.
Students who have been referred to Discovery often exhibit a wide range of challenging behaviours. Some have problems with anger management, impulse control, or have difficulty concentrating. Others may be demonstrating autistic behaviours or ADHD, whilst some could be experiencing mental health issues.
The minimum age for students is 6 years old. Maximum age is dependent on an individuals’ circumstances – please contact us to discuss their needs.
Young people of 18 years and over, who successfully complete a six-week course, can apply for a work experience placement.
Who do we work with?
We work closely with schools, social care, and specialist provision units. We are registered Alternative Provision providers for Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council, and work with many other local authorities.
However, anyone can refer a student to the Discovery programme – please contact us to discuss the needs of any young person you think could benefit.
