These four cold cast bronze sculptures are handmade, signed and numbered by the artist in her studio in Bristol. They were made after Sophie visited Horseworld to make some drawings of the animals. After talking to staff at the rescue centre, the idea of making a Horseworld set of pieces came about. Sophie worked with Kirsty, a groom at Horseworld, to show the relationships that grow between the animals and their carers.

Protector

Another of the heavy horses at Horseworld is called Sam. This great dark animal holds his powerful head over Kirsty's shoulder. The one doing the protecting is Kirsty, and her colleagues who help the animals at Horseworld regain their health, strength and trust in humans. The idea for this piece came about accidentally, when Kirsty was making Sam move backwards. He had no head collar, so she stood in front of his great chest and leaned back into him.
