Poppy was born at HorseWorld in April 2012. Her mother Lady came in with a group of other pregnant mares so Poppy was one of seven foals born at HorseWorld that year. The mares were part of a very large rescue of hundreds of horses thought to all be owned by the same person. Many were in poor condition, very underweight and had received rough or no handling so were very wary of people. Lady was twenty years old when she had Poppy so was quite a bit older than the other mares but had a very healthy foal.
Unfortunately the following year Lady was put to sleep due to arthritis and repeated infections from severe dermatitis on her legs. Poppy however is doing very well and has spent the last few years out in the field with the other youngsters, having occasional handling to start her training. Last year she was assessed by the vet and equine chiropractor and began the backing process.
She is doing very well with her ridden work and is happily hacking out and doing short schooling sessions. She will continue her education here until she is confident enough to go to a new loan home.
