Breed: Thoroughbred cross
Pippin’s owner sent her to HorseWorld in 2007 as she was no longer able to care for her but did not want to sell her and risk her ending up in the wrong hands. Although she had been off work for 3-4 years it was hoped Pippin was still able to be lightly ridden, but she had some health issues and her owner was worried that she may be pushed too far as she has such a lovely temperament. Once at HorseWorld Pippin was gradually brought back into work but had consistent lameness issues – investigations showed ligament damage in her front legs so the decision was made to retire her.
Pippin spent five years on loan to Langford School of Veterinary Science where her kind nature helped students learn to handle horses and carry out routine procedures. She was returned 2014 and since then has been living out with the other oldies – she has a few health issues that will gradually deteriorate so it would not be fair to rehome her again.
