Raffle winner scoops £1,000
West Country animal rescue charity, HorseWorld presented a cheque for £1,000 to the winner of their raffle this week.
Mrs Walsh from Longwell Green, Bristol visited the charity’s headquarters to accept the cheque, presented by Fundraising and Communications Manager, Stephen Poole. “I support HorseWorld simply because I love horses and I can’t bear to see some of the awful cases HorseWorld takes in.” Said Mrs Walsh. Ten runners up have been notified that they will receive a prize of £10 each.
The raffle which began in October has raised over six times that amount which will provide food, bedding and medical treatment to over 140 rescued horses, ponies and donkeys this winter, as well as support the work with vulnerable young people through HorseWorld’s educational ‘Discovery’ programme.
“We are approaching what we refer to as the rescue season” Said Stephen Poole. “January and February are our busiest months as horses that have been abandoned may have gone unnoticed by passers-by over the warmer months but will now start to run out of food and become thin. Many will break out onto roads looking for food and will need to be rounded up. The money raised from this raffle will be a welcome boost to help cover some of the veterinary costs which can run into many thousands for each horse.”
