HorseWorld's Discovery Courses branch out to introduce new nature courses

A charity that brings horses together with vulnerable young people has received help from Friends Life insurance company to build a unique nature area for a pioneering new series of courses.

HorseWorld, a horse rescue charity in Bristol developed their unique Discovery courses which involve bringing HorseWorld’s rescued horses together with youngsters with emotional, behavioural or learning issues to build confidence, natural curiosity, self awareness, awareness of others and team working and communication skills. Those showing severe anti-social and aggressive behaviour can become calmer and more communicative and once young people realise what they can achieve, they experience an increase in self esteem, concentration  and the ability to control themselves.

The new nature area will allow HorseWorld’s Discovery courses to branch out into a different area of the course where young people will be able to learn about wildlife and conservation, enabling them to gain an understanding of the environment and their place in the world.

“We would really like to thank Friends Life for all of their help” said Sharon Howell, Discovery Course Leader. “The staff volunteered their time and worked really hard all day to create this fantastic area. Without them, we just wouldn’t have had the resources to do this.”
