Dinky has not had the best of lives up until now and is looking for a very special home to care for her and to enjoy driving her.

Dinky has recently been broken to drive and has been pulling a cart since March 2008. She has a calm, un-fussed attitude to her work and has never been fazed by pulling her cart. She does take some encouragement to get going but is finding this easier all the time and is now happily walking and trotting around tracks, on grass and on the roads. She is good in traffic and has been out driving in heavy traffic including lorries and double decker buses. Dinky is now ready to go to a loaner with experience of driving where she can continue to be brought on.

Unfortunately Dinky is not a straightforward pony to care for as she suffers from sweet-itch and can be very grumpy to handle at times. Dinky's sweet-itch means she needs to wear a Boett rug throughout the 'itchy season' and be kept in a field with electric fencing to stop her from rubbing. If she is allowed anywhere she can rub she will cause herself damage so potential loaners will need to manage her carefully throughout the spring and summer months.

Dinky does not enjoy being smothered by people and can be aggressive if she wants to be left alone. She particularly hates children and would not be suitable to be around them. Although she can be grumpy Dinky is not really a nasty pony and if handled sensibly and sympathetically she is fine. She would need to be taken on by a loaner where two people enjoy driving as she is far easier to harness and hitch up if two people are handling her. Having said all of this she does appreciate a good scratch from her handler and is normally quiet to groom and handle.

Dinky is not an easy option but her sweet-itch and behaviour are manageable if given the right handling and management routine. She is showing good promise as a driving pony and will hopefully have many years of happy driving ahead of her.
